The Fashion Stock Sales has been organized since 2009.
Hosted by LUMI, during the event the Finnish designers and boutique owners
showcase their new collections and sell unique items and samples at discounted
prices. The Finnish fashion market is much rather smaller, yet at Fashion Stock
Sale the fashion enthusiastic would have a great chance to face to face with
the avant garde Nordic trend.
Having been attending Fashion Stock Sale
since 2013, I find that there are more young and talented designers showing up
each year to contribute the beauty and great idea, and it’s such a great fun to
chat with the newcomers. My first working experience in Finland, R/H Studio, is
also attending Fashion Stock Sale this year. With the lovely interns I say
hello and have a brief chat together. R/H Studio collection is designed in
Finland and made in Estonia, adapting denim or cotton materials as their design
DNA, and stay its very 90’s sporty vibe. Unfortunately I have to wait for their
iconic triangle cosmetic pochette until autumn time, so let’s keep this idea in
mind.
Ivana Helsinki by Paola Suhonen has been
playing not just only the Nordic pattern but also the bold colours. From
fashion to Home deco, Ivana Helsinki also collaborates with Moomin and City
Market (Finnish supermarket chain group) and blooms well at market sale. Their
accessories are the best gift idea, and ‘Herbario’ is full of the spring/summer
touch, a retro feel of one of my favourite Ivana Helsinki design ‘Rouva’.
Another exciting thing joining Fashion
Stock Sale event, is that encountering new brand of Finland. When it comes to Lovia, design follows carefully selected materials. Recycled
materials and sustainable sheep leathers or fish skin are the foundation of Lovia
design. Founded in 2014, Lovia has already developed a full women’s
ready-to-wear collection: suede fringe mini skirt, mulberry silk blouse,
recycled leather vest/jacket and wool winter trousers are all sewed in Helsinki
atelier. As for the accessories, Lovia bags are handmade in Tallinn; for the
recycled metallic studs, buttons, earrings or necklaces are from Finland or
other parts of EU. It’s a pity that the silk blouse is bit too long for my arm
length, otherwise there is no doubt I would like to purchase my first piece
from Lovia.
Helsinki Fashion Stock Sale is fun. Now I am waiting for
the Design Market in September, Retro & Vintage Design Expo in October and
Helsinki Fashion Stock Sale in November. Summer is super nice here, while Autumn
season shall be exciting too!
