STYLEBY #17, 2013
Since 5.4% Swedish speaking citizens still reside within Finland, it’s quite convenient to collect STYLEBY, which, a fashion magazine established in Sweden, 2011 by Bonnier Group.
The fashion and creative director of STYLEBY is international fashion personality Elin Kling, whom I first spotted at Japanese mook Glamorous Snap Style Book: 2012-13 Autumn & Winter. At first sight I found her sloping uni-brow is slightly melancholic for exciting fashion industry, but I have to admit that her style is worthy of long-term gazing. STYLEBY is very much a Kling’s paper edition platform to spread her life style, traveling snap and personal ideas outside of blogging-verse, and Kling herself is more a model/editor-in-chief rather than mere a creative director.
Published 8 issues annually, glossy printed, size 27’W, 29’L; what captures my attention on STYLEBY issue 7 is Kling’s ‘Mitt New York’ pages. On Restaurant, on bar, on sightseeing spots and on boutique shops, Kling captions on her own words; photographer Andrea Gamst records the fashion campaign ‘Back in the New York Groove’ (p.136-41) working process on ‘Backstage’ (p.142-43) with Kling and crew, under the lens, New York looks gracefully colourful. It’s more a pleasure to take a peek the labour of shooting, dressing and directing, while also enjoying the collaborating results. Undeniably, on content and inspiration, STYLEBY is more intriguingly absorbing than Elin Kling’s own fashion blog, seriously!
