Moscow Meets Milano
Departing
at 55’N to 45’ latitude, from a -27’c North realm to a +27’c designed kingdom, When
a Russian passion meets Italian fashion, what kind of chemical element will
happen?? PixyMindy interviews bella Olya, whom we met at hostel in Madrid, now
a fashion student at Istituto Europeo di Design Milano, to
show us how she nails between the school life and the vogue zest.
1.What
do you like most about your studying at Department of Fashion Marketing?
I
have been always interested in fashion a lot, but this has never been my
“passion” as a lot of people say. I really enjoy working with it as a tool, or
even product, not being one of these fancy world’s participators, but know how
the things work and being able to manage them.
The
subjects I like most are the major ones, like Merchandising, Fashion product,
Distribution, what I am really glad about, meaning I did the right choice.
2. Tell
us about your winter style in Moscow.
Haha,
well, when its -27 (like it was when I came back this time) you can’t think of
anything but Moncler jacket, uggs, tights under jeans!!!
But
if the weather is normal I usually wear leather boots (motorcycle or vintage
ones), parka jacket (with 2-3 t-shirts/sweaters under if its cold, but still
layering looks cool), oriental or plain black woven cardigan under, jeans or a
plain/velvet black skirt with black tights.
It
can be suitable for lots of things and I can just switch to silk blouse or
black dress if I go out.
3.
Who are your fashion icons?
When
I was working in TSUM (a big luxury department store in Moscow) before moving
to Milan I had one designer who I could name my icon: Alexander McQueen. For
the influence he made in the fashion world, for his pretty short but
spectacular career, for the controversial attitude he had. When I was looking
at the pieces they were the ones I could say about “I have never seen the
design like that before”.
Now I
still appreciate a lot his creativity and love some brands like Celine,
Givenchy, Maison Martin Margiela, Acne, Jil Sander, but I can’t say they are my
icons.
I
pick a picture from here, find inspiration there, add this or that page in the
bookmarks, I do a mix of things I like not keeping anybody on my mind.
4. Do
you read any magazine/blog or attend exhibition to gather your fashion
inspiration?
I
don’t like reading magazines at all (that’s why I probably didn’t choose
Fashion Communication), but if an issue of Dazed & Confused or Purple
catches my eye and I have enough time to read it, I buy it. I prefer digital
versions or websites which have magazines’ structure with different categories
and news/topics updated continuously.
About
the blogs: I prefer the inspirational blogs with just pictures which I collect
for my projects or my personal galleries on my pc to use them after. Sometimes
I don’t even know who is the author, I just save the links if I like it.
I
love exhibitions, especially by contemporary artists, because I guess that is
where the pure inspiration is, in the designers’ ones you can just copy stuff,
but still its very useful for being updated.
5. Introduce
your favourite store/mall to go shopping in Milano.
There
is the district in Milan which is called “Quartiere della moda” meaning
“Fashion district” with all the most famous and expensive designer boutiques, which
is beautiful and full of Chinese, Russian and other “new market’s” costumers.
But for
myself I prefer a more underground area which is called “Porta Ticinese”.
Historically it was the living/working place of artistic people in the 60s and
it still maintains this mood. It is an old narrow street full of streetstyle
shops, not cheap (if you go for a bag/leather jacket) but way more affordable
than the district I was speaking before. There are a lot of fashionable but
less classy people in this area. In the summer nights it becomes a very nice
place to meet friends and drink something at.
Thank
you for your attention! Ciao!!!
Grazie, bella!!!
